In this episode Salt's Richard Norris and Helen Spalding are  joined by Nicole Curtin, Programme Manager for the Employ Autism Programme at Ambitious about Autism. Working with employers and autistic young people to find and create inclusive employment opportunities, her expert advice will help your business make real changes today.

Code First Girls changing Tech for good with CEO Anna Brailsford and Ambassador Lara-Michelle Noack

Code First Girls changing Tech for good with CEO Anna Brailsford and Ambassador Lara-Michelle Noack

We need to see more women in technology. And action speaks louder than words. Here's what you can do now.

Women currently hold only 26.7% of tech-related jobs - and the percentage of women in all tech-related careers has actually decreased over the last 2 years.

More than 50% of women in tech report gender inequality, discrimination, or sexual harassment in male-dominated environments.

We caught up with Anna and Lara-Michelle from Code First Girls - an organization that has taught 100,000 women to code to date, for free.

Anna Brailsford is both CEO and a board member at the Institute of Coding. Before joining Code First Girls, she was the CEO and co-founder of Founders Factory incubated EdTech startup Frisbee, and previously the Commercial Director of Lynda.com and LinkedIn. When LinkedIn acquired Lynda for $1.5 Billion in April 2015, she became part of the fourth-largest acquisition in social media history, contributing to the creation of LinkedIn Learning.

Lara-Michelle Noack is a recent graduate from Code First Girls, working in her first role in Tech as a Could Infrastructure Engineer for Capital One. She is now using her voice to encourage others on her Instagram, Regular Coder Girl. Seeing more women in Technology is a key part of our mission here at Salt, and is also a key goal for many of our clients. We are committed to sourcing and supporting incredible female talent around the globe and helping them find their perfect role within an industry that needs more female representation and diversity as a whole. 'Working out' with charities with Ed Mayo, CEO of Pilotlight

Get back as you give back by offering pro bono volunteering opportunities to your staff!

This week's episode is with the incredible Ed Mayo, CEO of Pilotlight. Pilotlight connects skilled workers with charities who need their support - allowing employees to volunteer using the skills they use at work in a charity setting!

Ed has had a long career in charities. Starting out as a computer programmer in the private sector, he was driven by wanting to do good and he's volunteered throughout his life, so he understands first hand how beneficial working out can be to develop your career while also making a difference.

Ed has worked for a wide range of not for profits and campaigns before coming to Pilotlight 3 years ago, including the record breaking Jubilee 2000 campaign, petitioning for cancelling third world debt by the year 2000, and he has fascinating insights to share: from what volunteering can do for you as an individual to how it can benefit your workplace culture to how charities can balance their business needs with their commitment to their cause.

Maximizing the power of Neurodiversity and neurodiversity (BONUS)

Your bias could affect your skills shortage.

Hear the best bits of Salt's Neurodiversity webinar with experts from DivergenThinking explaining the social stengths-based model and what it can do for your business. Co-founders Natasya Jones and Anton Ashcroft share what needs to change and why in the modern workplace to leverage the power of Neurodivergent thinking for the benefit of all, and your bottom line. They also interview Grace, a creative in Media and Publishing, about her lived experience of working before and after her late diagnosis of ADD.

Many of the traits employers and hiring managers are looking for – innovation, creativity, analysis - are ones that Neurodiverse candidates possess in spades. Everyone benefits from a more inclusive workplace – it raises employee well-being and retention – but in times of skill shortage and such a competitive job market, many don’t realise the impact of Neurodiverse inclusive hiring on their bottom line.
