In Conversation with Art Director NIALL MORONEY
What happens when you are working on Disney's next blockbuster, The Little Mermaid, and a global pandemic strikes ? We discuss filmmaking in lockdown with Niall Moroney, Supervising Art Director for some of the most critically acclaimed films like Atonement, Mary Poppins Returns, Sherlock Holmes and multi-award-winning 1917.
We revisit Niall's stellar career, we ask him to share tips on how to break into the industry and how he landed roles working on the most exquisite films in recent times.
Niall Moroney is a Supervising Art Director in the film industry. He has been leading art departments on major international feature films for 14 years with prior experience in television and low budget British films. His educational background comprises of a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from University College Dublin with a Masters degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art. He is currently on hiatus from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

What is the magic special effects are made of?
While we all wait for Pixar’s upcoming blockbuster, Soul, we talk to Francisco DeLaTorre, Technical Director and shading artist at the world’s greatest animation studio. In our zoom webinar, Francisco tells us how they recreate the real and the imagined world at Pixar, and shares the professional journey landing his dream-job at Pixar.
Francisco DeLaTorre went to school to design rockets but wasted too much time watching movies to be any good at that. In 2002 he joined the special effects industry. He has worked for Weta Digital, in New Zealand and Pixar in California. He is specialised in recreating reality but he loves all aspects of production. He worked in Up, Toy Story 4, Avatar, Hero amongst many others.

James dean is an Elected Member of the BAFTA TV Committee and a freelance producer and director for Welded Tandem Picture Company and Ashmore Films.
