Stories from the Pennsylvania Wilds is back for Season 2! In our second episode of this mini-season, we feature an episode on the Clarion State College and Flight Training Programs of World War II. Our guest for this show was Leandro Aristeguieta, a Senior history major. He joins us to talk about the intersection of higher education and the mobilization for war in the United States in the Second World War. How Clarion survived the war, and helped aid the war effort, is unraveled in our interview with Leandro!

Stories from the Pennsylvania Wilds is back for Season 2! We begin our second season with an episode on Women's Suffrage in the Wilds. This season we will focus on the work of our very own Clarion University students. Our guest for this show was Autumn Martino, a Senior history major. She joined us to talk about her work focusing on the suffrage movement in Clarion, Jefferson, and Indiana Counties.

Our lives have all been drastically changed by the COVID-19, or Coronavirus, pandemic sweeping the globe. We here at "Stories from the Pennsylvania Wilds" are changing with the times to bring you a special run of episodes focusing on the science, history, and philosophy of pandemics.

In this episode, Jeffrey and Marc discuss the differences between the Pennsylvania Wilds and the major cities of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh and Philadelphia) during the Spanish Flu of 1918. They also welcome Lou Bernard, Librarian at the Ross Library in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to talk about the response to the Spanish Flu in the east-central PA Wilds. Of course, as comparisons between COVID-19 and the Spanish Flu of 1918 are common place in society today, all three will point to the historical parallels.

In this episode, we welcome our colleague in the History program at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Martha Robinson to talk with us about the history of disease and pandemics with a focus on the Yellow Fever Outbreak in Pennsylvania around Philadelphia in 1793. Dr. Robinson is a graduate of the University of Southern California and a historian of Colonial America, religion, and disease.

In this episode, we welcome Dr. Helen Hampikian to talk about the science of COVID-19. Dr. Hampikian, a graduate of the University of Birmingham (UK), is a microbiologist and expert on emerging disease and infectious disease at Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

In our inaugural episode of "Stories from the Pennsylvania Wilds", Dr.'s Marc Sanko and Jeffrey Diamond discuss the banking crisis of the Great Depression as it was seen from various counties and cities within the PA Wilds. Our guest for the show was Jessica Hilburn, Historian and Research Librarian for the Benson Memorial Library in Titusville, PA. Ms. Hilburn talks about her first book "Hidden Histories of Northwest Pennsylvania" and the importance of women history in the region including the Battles Family and the Battles Bank from Girard, PA during the banking crisis.
