In this episode I chat with Nicole, who runs @solidarity.apothacary. Nicole is a frontline organiser and herbalist based in the UK. She has written two brilliant books 'Overcoming Burnout' and 'The Prisoner's Herbal' which are available to buy at the website www.solidarityapothcary.org. If you need the support of plant allies email Nicole at info@solidarity.apothacary.org
CW: prison, violence, trauma, mental health/illness, burnout, sexual assault.
In this episode we talk about the SHAC campaign, being raised by the animal rights movement, Nicole's experiences of prison and of course the important role plants and herbalism plays in healing, community and liberation.
Apologies for the bad sound in this episode (I had to record on my phone's voice notes as I was away from home!)

003 There's Beauty In The Darkness

003 There's Beauty In The Darkness

In episode three I talk with Stewart a.k.a Vigilante Vegan. Stewart is a human and animal rights activist based in New York. He is a writer, poet and published author of three books (Kayla the Vegan, Liberation Summer & There's Beauty In The Darkness). In this episode we discuss what role art plays in our lives, how young people can teach compassion, veganism, the experience of being Black and working class in Brooklyn and the parallels between human and nonhuman oppression. Stewart gets vulnerable as he shares his thoughts and feelings on depression, healthcare, masculinity and struggling with mental health as a parent.

Stewart, thank you so much for your honesty and vulnerability. This is a really beautiful episode.

002 Love & Liberation

This is episode two, Love & Liberation, where I talk with Phoebe, an artist, activist and cofounder of the global anti-speciesist activism organisation The Earthlings Experience (www.theearthlingsexperience.com). Phoebe aims to spread love for all beings throughout all that she does, whilst working on herself and evolving to be her best, kindest, truest, unapologetic self. In this episode, we discuss love, both for all and for self, breaking the stigma around menstruation - particularly within intimate relationships - and the importance of setting intentions. 001 Power & Privilege

001 Power & Privilege

This is episode one, Power & Privilege, where I talk with Nahël. Nahël is a nonbinary, trans, queer, pro-intersectionality activist based in Scotland. They were born in France to a Tunisian father and a French mother and grew up immersed in both parts of their heritage. Their main focus in activism is decolonisation, radical healing, self-care and the power of self-determination within the context of a capitalistic, inherently oppressive society. They are interested in transformative justice, anarchism, prison and police abolition and helping to reunite their Afrikan culture and heritage with queerness. They are a graphic artist and want to work in animation in the future.  In this episode we discuss how Power & Privilege relate to Nahel as a queer, mixed race person, the education system, art, how marginalised people can take back the power denied to us by colonialism and much more. To see the links to resources, posts and articles we mention in this episode, visit the We Speak of Freedom instagram page highlights. Follow Nahël @3adi.is.over and see more of what they are up to.
