10: Take Care of Your Mind
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the BLM movement and all the crazy things that have been happening around the world, you may feel overwhelmed at one point. It's okay to take time off to care for both your physical and mental health. it's also incredibly important to support your family and friends who may be going through a hard time or struggling with their own mental health.
We were honoured to have Sagar and Neelika from Citta (@cittaindia) join us today to discuss mental health. Citta is a social venture that focuses on combating student suicide and increasing accessibility to therapy for Indian students. Although they are based in India, their services are available WORLDWIDE!
During this episode, we all opened up about our own experiences whether it is battling with mental health issues or dealing with stress and pressure from our families etc. We also discuss the different ways that we can look for help and support and how we can be better friends and family to people around us who are struggling with their mental health.
This is also the LAST EPISODE of our first season of High Expectasians. As we are all juggling between this podcast, our main media platform @asiansinbritain as well as our full-time jobs, we have decided to take a short break so that we can rest and also plan more and better episodes for the future! Stay tuned. We will be back soon!
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Thank you for your patience and thank you for taking the time out to listen to this episode.

9: Pay Your Taxes!
For Episode 9 of High Expectasians, we have the very talented Nicole (@thatsewnicole) join us in discussing her journey as a freelancer embroidery artist. 🙌We also go into detail about
1️⃣ Know how to manage your finance
2️⃣ Paying your tax
3️⃣ How to stay afloat as a freelancer! 📈💸
We always talk about how exciting and glamorous it is to be working for yourself and doing the things you love and are passionate about. However, the reality is that it's one thing to just follow your passion and another to be able to afford it, unfortunately...😅 That's why it's so important to understand how to manage your finances and hear it from Nicole herself who was able to become a full-time freelancer earlier last year!
Anyways hope you enjoy this episode! It's definitely more light-hearted than the other topics that we have discussed so far...
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Our lovely host Krishna was also sick during the recording of this episode so unfortunately, he is not part of today's episode. Thank you for your patience! 8: COVID Ain't Real
In the UK, despite the ease of lockdown, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, hate crimes against Chinese people has almost tripled according to police data. In this episode, we have the pleasure of inviting Viv Yau (@itsvivyau), founder of an influencer marketing agency @beeinfluenceuk and the person who created a petition to “Stop depicting East & South East Asians in Coronavirus related media”. We also discuss our personal experiences with COVID racism ever since the beginning of the pandemic, how some people still believe that COVID ain't real and how media has played a huge role in perpetuating the myth that East and South-East Asians are at fault for the spread of coronavirus.
To all our fellow Asian friends and families, now more than ever is the time to support each other and be part of the wider community to help fight against racism and hate crimes. And to all the essential and front-line workers, thank you for everything that you have done for us!
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Our lovely host Krishna was also sick during the recording of this episode so unfortunately, he is not part of today's episode. Thank you for your patience! 6: Pride and Prejudice
Episode 6 of High Expectasians is, unfortunately, not about Jane Austen's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice. Thanks to our lovely co-host Sanil for coming up with such a punny name for our episode where we talk about the issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Although pride month has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it is still so important to bring to light the many issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, especially within the Asian community.
We are really excited to have Hamza join us and share with us his personal experience and journey as a gay Asian man; from coming out to his parents to the difficulties he faces with dating etc.
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Further, last year was the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall, not 2020. Sorry about that!

5: Why Are You Not Married?
Growing up with Asian parents, once you hit a certain age, most of you would be familiar with these words: "Why are you not married?". It seems that our parents have this strange idea that you should be either single or married and there's no in-between! In Episode 5 of High Expectasians, we dive into the topic of dating and marriage with one of our favourite guests Simon Leow from Bam & Beyond, whom you all have heard from during our first episode. We also end this episode with an exciting "Would You Rather" round, so stick around to hear our funny replies to some questions that Sanil has created for us.
p.s. This episode was recorded back in 2019 so apologies if the dates mentioned might be slightly confusing. Thanks for your patience!

4: This is My Identity
Have you ever had a moment where you have some sort of identity crisis? or someone asks you where you're from or where you're actually from? What are the different aspects that make you?
In this episode of High Expectasians, we have the Krishna Balasubramanian join us to discuss about our identities!
We also have a very special announcement to make: Krishna will be joining us in becoming a host of High Expectasians so you will be hearing more from him from now on!
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Further, at one point Krishna mentions that the name of the city Bombay was changed to Mumbai when he was 5-10 years old. However, it was actually changed in 1995. Thank you for your patience!

3: Black Lives Matter & Asian Solidarity
We are very excited to have Aliyah Coreana (@aliyahart), a Multidisciplinary Artist specialising in illustration, animation, graphic design and editing to join us for episode 3 of High Expectasians to discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and Asian solidarity.
This is part 2 of our two-part series regarding the Black Lives Matter movement. This is something that all of us feel strongly about because the Asian community has been guilty at times of anti-black sentiment and racism in general. Through this episode, we have reflected on our actions and tried to look at how as Asians we can support the movement. We feel the need to not only show our solidarity but to actively contribute to the movement by educating ourselves and others as to how to be anti-racists.
*Please note that the following episode contains language which some listeners may find distressing. Trigger warning: racism.*
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Also, the podcast is in no way a personal attack on anyone but rather an understanding of what we could do better as a community. Thank you for your patience!

2: Black Lives Matter & Britain's Imperial Past
A lot of people have already talked about police brutality and the injustice that has been happening so we decided to put our focus on the issues surrounding systemic racism and Britain's imperial past that has arguably led to the events that have been happening in America and all over the world. This is definitely a heavy topic but something that we all have to face and be open and honest about.
*Please note that the following episode contains language which some listeners may find distressing. Trigger warning: death, racism, sexual assault.*
p.s. due to COVID-19, we had to record at our respective homes so the audio quality of each person is not the same. Also, at some point, some birds decided to chime in and join our discussion as well... it was hard to cut them out. Thank you for your patience!

1: Who Even Are We?
High Expectasians is FINALLY here! We are kicking off our first episode with a light-hearted and funny introduction about ourselves: who are the British Asians behind the High Expectasians podcast? In this episode, we also have Simon Leow from Bam & Beyond who will be joining us to discuss our journey from how we met to how we decided to work together for Asians in Britain to ultimately, how we came together to start this podcast.
*Quick note, this episode was recorded back in summer 2019 so some of the things mentioned might be slightly outdated. Anyways, enjoy!!*
