What Were the Biggest Gender Stories of 2021?
📌We finally got a judgment in the Abuja Raid On Women case.
📌We hosted the first-ever Glass Ceiling Convention
📌There was the story about a special assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor resigning to save her Marriage.
📌Then there was the story of some work-at-home wives faking illness and getting hospitalized because of excessive housework.
📌And that led us to a big conversation about how society treats Work At Home Spouses.
📌And as if to confirm our point, a Kenyan court ruled that work-at-home spouses are entitled to financial compensation.
📌We had a very important conversation about Gender Equality in Parenting.
📌We talked quite a bit about women as Breadwinners, especially after the Australian study which showed they were more likely to be abused by their spouses.
📌And then, there was the proposal at the National Assembly to create women-only seats.

Are Our Schools Discouraging Girls From Going Into Tech?
Monday was the International Day Of The Girl. And the theme this year is “Digital Generation, Our Generation”. By choosing this theme, the United Nations is asking all of us to reflect on what needs to be done to make sure that girls have equal access to Digital Literacy skills as boys so that as they grow up, they can become equal stakeholders in the Digital Economy.

Are Work-At-Home Spouses Getting The Help They Need?
A work-at-home wife shared this on social media QUOTE:
“I am here again. Please the pressure of being a housewife is too much, and hubby doesn’t see all I do but comes home complaining. I need someone (preferably a doctor) that can give me a hospital that would agree to keep me on bed rest or preferably write that I stay at home and rest for at least one week. Something convincing please with real hospital terms. I don’t mind paying a token.” END QUOTE.

How Do We Make Society More Accepting of a Woman Being The Breadwinner? PART 2
Let’s talk about the idea of women as breadwinners.
How can we get to the point where more people stop seeing money as a reason to have more power than your spouse in the relationship?
How do we get people to leave behind the idea that there MUST be a head of house, and instead consider cooperation and partnership with their spouse?

What Happens When A Woman Is The Breadwinner? (PART 3)
Let's talk about homes where the wife is the breadwinner.
How do things change when the wife is the one making more money, or making ALL the money?
And WHY do those things change? Is it because of the wife, or the husband, or both? Or is it due to external pressures and expectations?
Do we expect a level of humility from women with money, that we don’t expect from men with money?
Is there an extra level of subservience we expect from women to their husbands that we don’t expect from men to their wives?
Now I’m not saying anyone should lord it over anyone. Not husbands, and not wives. But I’m just asking: when it happens, do we shout more about wives doing it, than we do about husbands doing it? And if so, why?

Why Are Women Getting Harassed For Wearing Abayas?
We’re talking about this because it’s happening right now, in different parts of Nigeria. I started noticing the discussion on social media about 3 weeks ago. Apparently, men of different ages are accosting abaya-wearing women in public.
They’re claiming that it’s not a decent way for a Muslim women to dress. She’s too exposed apparently. And these women are subjected to all kinds of assault: from heckling, to insults, to physical assault.

Who should cook in the home?
Women are getting beaten, maimed, and KILLED over it.
A few months ago, in Kenya, a woman went for a family funeral. She was there all day. When she came home, her husband was angry that she left the house without cooking. And so, he chopped off her hand with a knife.
